Feb 27th 2012, Evergreen Marine Corp (長榮海運), the nation’s largest container shipping firm by fleet size, announced that it is scheduled to work with three other Asian container shippers in operating a route between North America and South America from late of March 2012.
The three other Asian container shippers are Hyundai Merchant Marine Co and Hanjin Shipping Co of South Korea and Nippon Yusen Kaisha (NYK Line) of Japan.
The four shippers are set to launch the Atlantic North South Service (ANS) on March 22, with Evergreen, Hyundai and Hanjin each providing one 2,100 twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU) ship each for the route, while NYK Line will provide three.
“Following the growing pace of trade volume between North America and South America, the cooperation has high potential for development,” Evergreen said in a statement.
In December last year, Evergreen said it planned to deepen cooperation with CKYH-the Green Alliance, which is made up of several major Asian container shipping companies, to improve price stability and control transport capacity more efficiently in view of the continuous uncertainties in global economy.
